Provident Living Fair
Our Stake had a provident living fair and I learned some interesting things. I copied the information from Laura Ross - who typed it all out on her blog - thanks for that Laura! I have used the homemade laundry soap and so far it seems to be working! I haven't gotten any peroxide yet, but will soon.
PS - I've finally added some text to the pictures of my dad so after you read this - go to my previous post for the added words of adoration!
Peroxide
(Safer and Healthier than Bleach)
This was written by Becky Ransey of Indiana (a doctor's wife).
Peroxide/ Bleach history: Bleach was invented in the late 40's, it 's chlorine and it was used to kill troops. Peroxide was invented during WWI in the 20"s. It was used to save and help cleanse the needs of troops in hospitals.
- Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle) and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. No more canker sores and your teeth will be whiter without the expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash.
- Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of peroxide to keep them free of germs.
- Clean your counter and table tops with peroxide to kill germs and leave a fresh smell. Simple put a little on your dishrag when you wipe or spray it on counters
- After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria.
- I had fungus on my feet for years until I sprayed a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water on them every night and let dry.
- Soak any infections or cuts in peroxide for 5 to 10 minutes several times a day. My husband has seen gangrene that would not heal with any medicine but was healed by soaking in peroxide.
- Fill a spray bottle with 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water and keep it in every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septic system like bleach or like most other disinfectants will.
- Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixture whenever you have a cold, plugged sinus. It will bubble and help to kill the bacteria. Hold for a few minutes, and then blow your nose into a tissue.
- If you have a toothache and cannot get to a dentist right away, put a capful of peroxide into your mouth and hold it for 10 minutes several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly.
- If you like a natural look to your hair, spray the 50/50 solution on your wet hair after a shower and comb it through. You will not have the peroxide-burnt blonde hair dye packages but more natural highlights if your hair is a light brown, faddish or dirty blonde. It also lightens gradually so it's not a drastic change
- Put half a bottle of peroxide in your bath to help rid boils, fungus or other skin infections.
- You can also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on clothing, pour it directly on the soil spot. Let it sit for a minute, then rub it and rinse with cold water.
- I use peroxide to clean my mirrors. There is no smearing.
Pre-wash (I haven't tried this yet)
1 c ammonia
1 c liquid Ivory
6 c water
Liquid Laundry Detergent (I have tried this and like it crazy cheap you get everything to begin with for under 10 and can make so much from it.)
1/3 bar grated Fels Naptha Soap (you find it in the laundry isle but not at Wal-mart)
1/3 cup Washing Soda (again in the laundry isle but not at Wal-mart)
1/2 cup Borax (I did find this at Wal-mart in the laundry isle)
You will need a small bucket (2 gallon size).
Put grated Fels Naptha into a large sauce pan.
Add 6 cups water and heat, until soap melts (slowly)
Add washing soda and borax
Stir until dissolved and remove from heat
Pour 4 cups hot water into the bucket.
Add soap mixture and stir.
Now add 1 gallon plus 6 cups of water and stir.
Let the soap sit for about 24 hours. It will gel. Use 1/2 cup per load
(I also add 2 scoops of oxyclean when I add the soda and borax but not necessary)

Those are cool recipes! Is there anything peroxide can't do?
Awesome post! This kind of info is so helpful, and it goes right into my emergency folder. Thanks for sharing.
